According to Massachusetts State Police, the car caught fire just after 7 a.m. on the westbound side of the Pike beyond the Prudential Tunnel. Making matters worse, several cars also hit debris on the road in that area. The westbound side of the Pike was shut down and traffic has backed up all the way to Logan Airport.

The Mass Pike westbound in downtown Boston is no longer locked down. MassDOT reported that the morning mess is clear as of 9:38 a.m. The Pike was closed at mile marker 133 “due to a vehicle fire” for most of the morning commute, though.

An electric vehicle burst into flames near Boston’s Prudential Tunnel during the Friday morning commute, prompting officials to close part of the Massachusetts Turnpike.
